How to win a contest or sweepstakes is something everyone would like to know.  While winning is never guaranteed, there are some tips that can improve your chances of winning.

First, read the contest rules and eligibility.  This is extremely important.  Before entering, you want to make sure that residents of the state or country you reside in are actually eligible to enter the desired contest.  Remember also contests that are open to fewer people because of locale, have less people entering them.  This means it improves the odds of winning for those who do chose to enter that particular contest.  When first starting, sometimes it will be easier to win a contest if you look for one that is truly local, i.e. open to residents of just one city.

A great way to win a contest for kids to find contests that have age categories.  For example, if an art contest is open to kids ages 8 to 16 and all kids are judged together, then the 16 year old contest entrants may be more likely to win because their art skills are more developed.  But if that same contest had three age categories i.e. 8-10 year olds, 11-13 year olds and 14-16 year olds with kids in each category winning, that makes it more fair and helps you to win the contest.

What is the contest prize?  To win a contest, keep in mind that the bigger the prize, the more likely people are to enter the contest. To improve your odds, try entering contests that have smaller prizes.

Check how often you can enter.  Some contests allow multiple entries.  Some sweepstakes allow daily entries. Although the terms are used interchangeably, there is a difference between a contest and a sweepstakes. A contest is usually won on merit.  That is, you had to paint a picture, or create something, or write a story etc. to win.  Sweepstakes simply allow people to give their name and contact info to enter.  No talent is needed.  Keep track of how many times you can enter and then enter a contest or sweepstakes as much as you can to improve your changes of winning.
